A little information about our kids: Our kids spend their first several weeks of life with their mothers full time. At four or five weeks we close the kids in their own stall for the night. After we milk the does we let the kids out to spend the rest of the day with their moms.
So far we have attended almost every birth on the farm. We like to be present in case there is a breach birth or any other difficulties. We help by drying the kids off and helping them find their mothers teats. We check on mom and kids frequently for the first couple days. We haven't bottle fed kids since our first goats were shipped up as kids. In order to have dam raised and friendly kids, handling the kids daily is essential. We spend time with the herd each day. This way the kids get to know and trust us.
The earliest we will part with kids is eight weeks, we'd prefer to wait closer to ten to twelve weeks as the kids will grow better and have improved overall health. We treat any signs of Coccidiosis with an herbal worm formula, this has worked exceptionally well for us so far. We will register all doelings and bucks. They will have already been disbudded and tatooed by the time of sale.
