We currently have three mature bucks. Our herd and our bucks are young, ranging from two to four years in age. This was our first year breeding Zanzibar and Zoro, so it will take a while to see what kind of kids they put out. We have two of Xavier's daughters in the herd, who will be bred this fall. While we haven't seen daughters out of the bucks mature yet, we have seen their dams, grandams and sisters. These pictures speak volumes for the potential of these bucks. We certainly don't need three bucks for our tiny herd. But as we do have them, we might as well keep them around until we see what they can do.

Zanzibar brings a whole new look and genetic line to the herd. He has lots of dairy character, round and curvy. He is smaller than the other bucks, but second in rank. The does seem to prefer him. I don't know if they notice his flashy markings or more likely it has to do with some other traits I can't appreciate, like strong odor. We have twin doelings out of Zanzibar this spring and possibly more to come. So it will be a while to see what traits he passes on. Better pictures coming, along with some of his female relatives.

Xavier is a handsome four year old. He is long and angular. We finally got two doelings out of him last spring. They will be bred this fall, so next spring we should have a better grasp of his influence. We love the looks of his dam and grandams. We look forward to seeing their influence in our herd. We plan on keeping Xavier around and breeding him to a few does each year. For his size, he is still relatively gentle and easy to handle.

Zoro is our first Wild Roots buck. We lost both his dam and sire in the same summer and we were so thankful to still have Zoro and his twin sister. His dam was our strongest doe in the herd. She was our biggest producer with a high round udder. Great teat placement and size. A strong all around doe. Zoro's body type is very similar to his sire's; round, dairy, curvy, shapely. He is a handsome guy. We are glad to have him and while it will be a while to see how his daughters grow, we are looking forward to the wait. His first daughter, Bramble was born this spring, out of Rose. His full sister Zuri, and half sister Zinnia, are first fresheners and we couldn't be happier with how they are turning out.
